PRAISE FOR “EXCHANGE AT THE BORDER”:

5.0 out of 5 stars   Great book! Must read!
By Curly Sue on October 16, 2015

Great book! Easy to read… the author did a great job keeping the chapters short making it very easy to find a good stopping point with today’s busy lifestyles. The book itself, even though you had good stopping points, you would not want to put it down! Her imagination takes you places you wouldn’t expect! Just when you think you know what’s coming next, think again! I hope she is working on a sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars A heavenly take on good and evil
By Haley’s Comments on October 26, 2015

I was given an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. In the novel, Exchange at the Border, Ms. Goodwin has combined history, the supernatural, suspense, twists and turns into a fast-paced story that combines extreme good and evil in one person. Protagonist Porro Camorra, a farm worker for the wealthy and powerful Don Francisco, risks his life to emigrate from Mexico to America to avoid persecution from Don Francisco’s sons for impregnating their sister, Azucena. Unfortunate circumstances force the two lovers apart, and Porro hopes to make a better life for them when he reaches America. He yearns to earn the respect of Don Francisco and to receive his blessing for the marriage he hopes for. Don Francisco has his own plans for Azucena, which she rebels against holding out for Porro’s return. Porro’s journey is incredibly difficult, and the outcome takes us into the mystical area of the book. Porro’s life in the States takes on a new energy and we’re never sure if he will succumb to evil, or if his innate goodness will prevail. The language and flow of words is poetic without being overly sentimental, and the author ties it up in a satisfying ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile read!!

This tale is an engaging examination of the moral and ethical battle that we face in our lives. The choice between good and evil is sometimes not as clear as we want it to be. Although I am personally an agnostic with regard to my religious beliefs, I appreciated the metaphors used by the author to show that we always need to be prepared to fend off evil thoughts especially if they are initiated from outside sources. We must fight to be true to our sense of goodness and propriety. We will be rewarded for that in the end. Enough of that! This is a good read even with the invocation of the imagery of heaven and hell, both realities for the author that I, personally, do not subscribe to. The story moves along and in the end comes together within the framework of heaven that she has created. I could not help but smile at the created democratic infrastructure of heaven. It evoked memories of the Albert Brooks film Defending your Life as well as the Wim Wenders indie film Wings of Desire. I enjoyed it and look forward to the author’s next project.

5 out of 5 stars MS. GOODWIN’S FIRST NOVEL “HITS IT OUT OF THE BALL PARK”…HOME RUN.
By Roberta Mason on December 31, 2015

I just finished reading Ms. Goodwin’s MASTERPIECE this afternoon. I just can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed it. It is hard to fathom that this is her first novel…. BRAVO, BRAVO. The story was so easy to follow and the transitions so smooth. The chapters were kept short, especially helpful for a “waiting-room and bedtime reader”. The characters came to life on the pages.
I hope that we don’t have to wait another 4 years before she gives the world her 2nd novel.

Translation: Dear Alejandra I finished reading your book a few days ago. I think it was fantastic and I sincerely congratulate you because it’s a very interesting intellectual product. The book reveals the author’s extraordinary imagination, beginning with the fantasy of two souls in one body and continuing with the conversation between the angels and the plot that takes place in Heaven. It would be too long to comment chapter by chapter but I think all the anecdotes you tell, possibly imagined, are of an extraordinary quality and absolutely unique. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you personally if you’re ever in Buenos Aires. Continue in this path and for sure you will become a famous author. My congratulations and a hug.
